Kokkinos Pyrgos
Kokkinos Pyrgos Resort
The name of Kokkinos Pyrgos, which means a ´red tower´, is derived from the fact that in the Middle Ages, there used to be a castle made of red clay. The town can be found about 2 km from Timbaki and 67 km south-west of Heraklion.
What to do there?
The whole surroundings are known especially for their beautiful beaches with crystal clear sea. As soon as arriving at the town, you will find a long beach with a gentle entry into the shallow water, stretching up to Kommos. The Katalyki beach which has umbrellas with deckchairs, and there is a lifeguard keeping an eye on your safety, is also sought-after by the turtles Caretta Caretta that lay their eggs there every year.
In the western part of the town, you will find a picturesque fishing bay, and during the summer months, you can go for an organized boat trip to some of the local attractive beaches. In the west of the port, you will find another beach, a rocky and completely unequipped one. The beach is popular among nudists who like to take a rest there under the shade of tamarisks,
In Kokkinos Pyrgos you will find a great number of hotels and suite houses, and obviously tavernas and all kinds of shops. In the nearby town of Tympaki, you can visit some of the many cultural events that are regularly held there during the summer with great enthusiasm.
